Faith Formation

Welcome to the St. Clement Parish Faith Formation page!

Faith formation takes many different forms in our parish. The first and primary faith formation comes from seeing our faith lived out in the community through our parishioners. By their example and service throughout the community, one can see that our faith is something more than we simply talk about. It is the guiding premise of our lives.

Faith formation starts early in a person’s life. Prior to having a child baptized into the community, the parents need to have an understanding of what they are asking for when they present their child to be baptized. Working with members of the Baptismal Preparation Program, parents see that baptism is a life-long commitment, which will change the child’s life forever. Parents need to understand this and be willing to commit their child to this as well as being willing to accept the responsibility of raising the child in the Catholic Faith.

The parish helps parents and godparents in their responsibilities in a variety of ways:

A pre-school program in the school beginning at the age of three years of age.
At the Sunday 10:30 a.m. liturgy through the Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
Religious education in our school to the eighth grade.
Montessori religious education for ages 3-5 in our evening program.
Religious education currently to the sixth grade level in our evening program.
Sacramental preparation programs both in the school as well as in our evening program.
A two-week summer religious education program for children grades 1 to 6.
Ecumenical Vacation Bible School during the summer.

One never graduates from faith formation. Just as the baptismal commitment is a life-long commitment, so is the responsibility to continue to grow in understanding the faith one has accepted. To that end, we offer the following:

Faith sharing based on the Sunday readings.
Periodic presentations on items of interest.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.
Adult Faith Formation Team.
Short items of formation in parish bulletin.
Parish library.
Season devotional aids.
Monthly inserts in the bulletin helping parents (and others) grow in their faith.

Faith in Practice...

Our 2012 Lenten events include different variations of the Way of the Cross every friday evening at 7:00 p.m. These include: The Family Way on March 16th with pizza at 6:15, Traditional version on March 23rd, and Mary's Way of the Cross on March 30th. Vesrpers are held every Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Friar's Chapel. A penance service on April 1st at 7:00 p.m. A Passion event on Palm Sunday at 7:00 p.m. and an Ecumenical Service with our fellow St. Bernard churches at Immanuel United Church of Christ on April 6th at 7:00 p.m. St. Clement offers our parishioners a wide range of events to prepare for the "Risen Christ."

RCIA...today

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process in which individuals who have reached the age of reason find out more about the Catholic Faith. It is an ancient process which was used in the early church for individuals who wished to become part of the Catholic Community. The Rite has been restored to the universal church in the last thirty years. It is now the proper way for people to understand the Catholic Faith and, if they desire, become members after they acquire an understanding of the Faith. READ MORE
