CONFIRMATION

"The sacrament of confirmation strengthens the baptized to be witnesses of Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith" (Canon Law 879).

THE EFFECTS OF CONFIRMATION

• Permanent Seal: "It imprints on the soul an indelible spiritual mark, the 'character', which is the sign that Jesus Christ has marked a Christian with the seal of his Spirit by clothing him with power from on high so that he or she may be his witness" (CCC 1304).
• Increase of Baptismal Grace: "It unites us more firmly to Christ; it increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us; it gives us the strength to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ" (CCC 1303)
• Gifts of the Holy Spirit: 
  • wisdom,
  • understanding,
  • knowledge,
  • counsel,
  • piety,
  • fortitude, and
  • fear of the Lord

CONFIRMATION REQUIREMENTS

• Age: preferably between the ages of 12 and 18, or for adults who have not received it yet.
• Prior Sacraments: Baptism, Reconciliation, and Eucharist.
• Preparation:
  • For children who attend St. Clement School: the preparation for Confirmation takes place every other year, during Religion class, in grades 7 and 8. The celebration of the sacrament is done at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, on a date selected by the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.

• • For children who attend other schools and for adulst: the preparation for Confirmation takes place at the parish every year. Preparation begins in February or March, and the celebration of the sacrament is done on the Feast Day of Pentecost.
